Some of our Full Moons staff team have attended training for the project and have started now to roll out the scheme, involving the children and families in the project based around the 4 strands of literacy (Oral, Writing. Books. and Environmental Print).

Our first literacy event was a visit to the Local Library where the children had the opportunity to meet and listen to Nick Sharratt, a well-known children's book author and illustrator. He read the children some of his stories. and got one of our families involved in acting out Shark In The Park. After stories, Nick showed the children how he creates his illustrations and then children had the opportunity to create their own pictures.

The next event we have been involved in were some Home Learning Opportunities, where children who were signed up to the project were visited at home by our Early Years Professionals, to carry out an activity based around print in the environment. There was an activity where children could cut out the logos of some well known brands and match them to the logos in their books. Children participating in the scheme were also given their own instant print cameras so that they could look around their home environment for print on items. As an extension we have encouraged children to take their camera out when they go on trips out to capture any other printed words in the environment which can be added to their unique scrapbooks!

Further events are planned over the next few months including a literacy party for children and their families, and a performance by a theatre company, aiming to bring stories to life for the children. Watch this space for more updates!
