Reading a story to your child opens a whole new world of communication, language and imagination. It opens a world of wonder and allows them to explore in fantasy play. The benefits of reading to your child are endless.
Our children at West Bromwich LOVE a good book and we often base activities around stories that the children have been reading on repeat. It sparks an interest and engages the children, which helps them to learn more and stay focused.
We read stories regularly throughout the day and books are readily available for the children to look at throughout the nursery including in our outdoor environment. We also set up a range of props and resources based around the children's favourite stories to let them retell and recreate the stories in their own creative and imaginative ways!
We have also accessed our local library over the past 6 years and our children have loved visiting to hear other people telling stories as well as accessing a world of books so they can choose a story to take home and share with their parents.
Our children's Top 5 favourite books are:
1. A Squash and a Squeeze (Julia Donaldson)
2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Eric Carle)
3. The Gruffalo (Julia Donaldson)
4. We're Going on a Bear hunt (Michael Rosen)
5. The Tiger who came to tea (Judith Kerr)
Let us know what your favourite book is...
World Book Day is celebrated in March each year, so always remember to look out on our Facebook page for all the activities and fun that we have been up to at West Bromwich!
